MVBRB Extra: The Rest of the Best, 2010

By JT

Our second year in burger review went extremely well.

In March, Todd Franko, editor of the Youngstown Vindicator, checked out our doings at the MVR in Youngstown. He was impressed enough to write an article introducing us to the Vindy readers. (Check out the Article here—> http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwp.me%2Fp1gvOs-2E&h=f5ce3) After the March 14th publication, things started to roll. In the next day and a half we received over 50 suggestions on who’s burger to sample! And they don’t stop; we’re still getting comments and emails weekly. We’ve compiled an extensive list with many places receiving multiple referrals. Since then, we’ve been working on chowing our way down the list by reviewing the most popular establishments first.

We received another boost in June, when Valley Magazine published an article featuring us. The magazine is published by the Chambers of Commerce for Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull Counties. Writer Susan Melish acompanied us for a burger at Martini Brothers. (read the article here—>http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwp.me%2Fp1gvOs-4m&h=f5ce3) The referral list continued to grow rapidly.

Presently, we don’t need to spend any time deliberating on where to go from month to month. We go to who has the most votes, the top of the list. So if you’re wondering why we haven’t been to your favorite burger joint, it’s because they haven’t made the top of the list… HELP ‘EM OUT!      We were both surprised and relieved by the number of great burgers we’ve had in 2010. Here’s a brief summary with a link to the complete review for each of the burgers that we have rated 4 stars:

Cleats Club Seat Grille (Warren) – On Elm Rd. just South of the Rt. 82 bypass, Cleats burgers have a great grilled flavor that you can savor in a fun sports theme atmosphere. Cleats finished 2nd best burger for 2010!https://burgerguyz.wordpress.com/2010/12/31/mvbrb-review-cleats-club-seat-grille-warren-5-28-10/

YOLO Grill (Canfield) – Located at the corner of rt. 46 and Shields Rd., Chef Matthew Sutton works a little magic with these awesomely flavored burgers!  Very cozy, laid-back atmosphere. And not only are the burgers great, the other dishes look incredible! Very reasonable!
*
Station Square (Liberty) – Chefs Ottavio and Bridget Musumeci have got it goin’ on at this long-time Liberty landmark! An absolutely excellent burger. And for a healthier option, try the organic, grass-fed, Piedmontese beef. You won’t be disappointed!

O’Charley’s (Niles) – Located near the Eastwood Mall, O’Charley’s has an updated burger menu. A very clean, family-friendly atmosphere with a very, very flavorful hamburger. Congressman Tim Ryan loves these burgers!  “Best I’ve ever had,” he proclaimed.

Steel Trolley Diner (Lisbon) – Historic trolley car diner, National Hamburger Festival award winner. With over 30 burgers to choose from, the “S.T.D.”, (as they lovingly refer to it in Lisbon!), offers some unique toppings that aren’t often associated with hamburgers. If it’s food, it’s a good bet that they have it on a burger! You won’t believe the “Elvis” burger!

Shakers Bar and Grill (Liberty) –  Just North of Churchhill on Rt. 193, Shakers offers a festive atmosphere to go with a great “build-your-own” type burger! And check out their onion rings — fantastic! Beautiful patio to enjoy your meal on, (when the weather is a little better)!
